Pennsylvania attorneys win $1.7 million dollar verdict
The Pittsburgh office of Edgar Snyder & Associates, recently represented Mr. & Mrs. Charles and Robyn Graham and the Estate of their son, Jacob Graham. The jury verdict, totaling $1,780,000, was awarded for damages resulting from an accident on February 17, 1998 that claimed the life of Jacob.
Jacob Graham, a junior at Northwestern High School in Albion, died as a result of the injuries he received in a collision between his pickup truck and a Laidlaw Transit Company bus. Jacob was traveling east on Route 6 near Albion, PA, when a Laidlaw Transit Company bus pulled from a stop sign into his path causing the collision. As a result of the collision, Jacob suffered fractures of both his arms, a fracture of his left leg and a fatal injury involving a blow to the chest.
The accident happened within sight of the family home. His parents and his 9-year-old brother ran to the scene and saw Jacob in the truck. His dad talked to him until the EMTs arrived. He was trapped in the wreckage, alive and conscious, for approximately forty minutes. He was then transported from the scene to Hamot Hospital in Erie where efforts were made to save his life through surgical intervention. Unfortunately, these efforts failed. Jacob's corneas were donated to the eye bank after he died.
His parents, Charles and Robyn Graham, filed a lawsuit on behalf of their son and on behalf of themselves. The trial was conducted before the Honorable Ronald Folino on Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31. At the time of the trial, Laidlaw Transit Company admitted 100% responsibility for the accident.
