Employee

All natural persons who perform services for another in exchange for a wage or salary.

Employer

The master; the one who employs the services of another and who pays wages or salaries in return for the performance of those services. Employers include natural persons, partnerships, corporations, the state, and governmental agencies of the state.

Error

In the legal sense, a mistaken interpretation of facts or application of the law that can prove grounds for an appeal .

Evidence

Proof of a probative matter presented at a legal proceeding for the purpose of inducing belief in the minds of the jury or judge. Evidence comes in a variety of forms, including testimony, writings, tangible objects, and exhibits.

Excess insurance

Coverage against a loss in excess of a stated amount provided under another insurance contract.

Exhibit

A paper, document, or item produced at a court proceeding for the purpose of proving a fact.

Expert

One who by reason of education or experience possesses superior knowledge in a particular subject.

Expert witness

A witness who, by reason of education or experience, possesses superior knowledge in a subject and is qualified by the court and, therefore, permitted to assist the jury in understanding complicated and technical subject matter not within the understanding of the average lay person.
