Construction zone laws in Pennsylvania

New constructions zone laws in Pennsylvania were enacted in 2003. These laws are aimed at reducing the number of accidents, injuries, and fatalities that occur in work zones. Most people would be surprised to know that the majority of construction zone fatalities are drivers and passengers, not construction workers.

Pennsylvania's construction zone laws require:

  • the use of headlights when prompted for better visibility
  • the suspension of driver's license for 15 days if caught exceeding the work zone speed limit by 11 mph+
  • an additional 5 years of jail time if a driver is convicted of vehicular homicide involving reckless driving or drunk driving in a work zone.
