Pennsylvania Car Accident Legal Center

Pennsylvania car seat laws

Pennsylvania car seat laws were enacted to keep our children safe. Using child seats properly can reduce the risk of a child’s death in a car accident by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers.

To keep children safe, Pennsylvania law requires:

  • the use of an appropriate infant or car seat for children under the age of 4
  • the use of appropriate booster seats for children age 4 or older but under the age of 8
  • the use of seat belts for children age 8 or older but under the age of 18
