Pennsylvania Car Accident Legal Center

Injured in a bicycle accident? Our Pennsylvania lawyers can help!

Bicycle accidents are especially dangerous when they involve a car or other motor vehicle. The bicyclist is obviously at a great disadvantage. The motor vehicle is big, heavy, and usually moving fast. The cyclist has little protection against this force. As a result, the bicyclist may suffer serious, or even fatal, injuries.

In Pennsylvania, children ages 5 to 14 are most at risk for death and injury from bicycle accidents. Bicyclists between the ages of 15-34 are also at a higher risk for injury or death.

Bicycle accidents can occur when:

  • A motorist enters the roadway from a driveway or a parking space and fails to see the bicyclist until it's too late.
  • A motorist fails to yield to a cyclist at an intersection by running a stop sign or traffic light, or by fully stopping but then failing to look both ways before resuming travel.
  • A motorist turns left or directly in front of a bicyclist. The bicyclist is then literally cut off by the car.
  • A motorist passing the cyclist or another vehicle fails to see the cyclist until it's too late. Cyclists can also be struck when a passing motorist swerves into the path of the cyclist in order to avoid hitting something else.
