Auto Accident Checklist
Auto accidents can cause us all not to think clearly at the time. By
following these steps, you can save yourself some time and hassles in
the future. You may want to print this page out and put a copy in your
glove compartment of your car.

Stay calm.

Turn off your engine.

If there are injuries, get help immediately and notify the police.
If people are injured, ask the police for information regarding the
extent of the injuries.

Also write down the names, addresses, sex and ages of the
individuals.

Exchange information with any other drivers. This includes name,
address, phone number, driver's license number and license plate
number.

Get the name of the owner of the car, and their insurance company.

Call the police and file a police report.

Do not discuss the accident with anyone, except the police. And
don't blame anyone for the accident.

Identify any witnesses. Be sure to get the names, addresses and
phone numbers of anyone who saw the accident.

Assess the damage to your car and any other vehicles. Get the make,
model, year and license plate numbers of any involved vehicles. In
addition, record the extent of the damage.

Document the accident. Note the date, time and location of the
accident.

Report the accident to your insurance company as soon as possible.

Most importantly, if you're hurt, seek medical treatment.
